Foley Vision Center welcomed the 2021 year with a virtual event discussing treatments for dry eye, skincare, anti-aging, and more. Dr. Foley and our in-house aesthetician Gillian discussed what Foley Vision Center can offer patients this year.
Dr. Foley began by describing her history in the ocular surface disease and dry eye world, and how she has travelled the country learning about new technology and treatments to help treat this infuriating disease. Since bringing radiofrequency and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) to Eugene, patients have been successfully treated for their dry eye and ocular surface disease and have been very happy with their results.
Let’s dive into what the Tempsure Envi Radiofrequency device does! Every year after age 30, we lose 1-2% of our skin’s collagen every year. This leads to skin laxity, wrinkles, fine lines, and cellulite. Radiofrequency reverses this collagen loss by using therapeutic heat to trigger the body’s natural response to produce collagen. When treating ocular surface disease, radiofrequency has three main effects:
- Remodels the structure of both upper and lower eyelids to produce a more efficient lid seal, thereby protecting your eyes from the environment as you sleep.
- Sends heat deep into the dermis of your skin to activate the delicate oil glands of your eyelids. These oil glands are essential to maintain a healthy tear film and keep vision from fluctuating.
- Tightens the conjunctiva (clear tissue on the whites of the eyes) to remove the sensation of grittiness and foreign body in the eyes.
Radiofrequency is a natural, non-surgical option to treat both ocular surface disease, aging signs, and is safe for every skin type. Watch the recording below to learn more about radiofrequency and view before and after photos. You will feel good, look good, and see better!
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a photofacial laser treatment that targets pigmentation and vascular lesions, such as in facial and ocular rosacea. IPL breaks up unwanted lesions and signals the body to absorb and erase brown spots, sun damage, and abnormal feeder vessels in a natural, non-surgical way. Ocular rosacea is a heavy hitter in aggravating ocular surface disease and dry eye, and Oregon has the highest concentration of people with facial/ocular rosacea in the country! IPL will shrink and eliminate inflammatory feeder vessels from the ocular surface while also reducing inflammation, eliminating demodex, and rejuvenating the oil glands.
The Icon device that operates IPL also has other functions such as laser hair removal, scar/stretch mark removal, and wrinkle reduction. Foley Vision Center offers free consultations with Gillian to develop a personalized treatment package that will accomplish all your dry eye and/or aesthetic goals.
